I've recently found a mint print of this fantastic Christmas Classic as released by Columbia. I used to have it many years ago but as with everything else it went to Derann in the mid to late 90,s when I initially made the mistake of pulling out of the hobby:( This cartoon is an absolute Christmas Classic and is very much a must have alongside the likes of Peace On Earth, Pluto's Christmas tree, The Night before Christmas & The Small One etc etc. I was really pleased to have finally got this back in my Christmas collection ready to roll out one day to the, not so far in the future Grandchildren, I fear, to get magic of Christmas across to them hopefully. Couple this with a modern day programme of Mickeys Christmas Carol, Madagascar Penguins Christmas Capers and The Snowman etc and Super 8 has a place for the next two generations at least I feel! Just fantastic viewing and the colours (as with all Columbia prints I've found) are holding up just Brilliantly!

I love this cartoon but I always have to watch it on my own as my wife cries her eyes out when she sees it. It's got to be the saddest cartoon ever produced, a real tear jerker.

Very true Paul! But a brilliant addition to any Christmas show I feel, brings home all the important things in life and hopefully teaches children the same! I always found it very poignant as a kid even if only a cartoon.

Hi Andrew, I just came across a S8 print of The Little Match Girl a couple of weeks ago. I have never seen this Christmas cartoon before and found it quite heartbreaking. The Columbia animation is very good, definately 30's style, and the color on my print is like new. A highly recommended Christmas short.

I have this LPP reprint as well, and it is quite lovely! It was a late 1930's cartoon and really was above and beyond anything that Columbia was putting out in the way of cartoons. They put a lot of effort into it and it showed up on screen!

I hadn't realised the print was on LPP stock until Osi pointed it out but that would explain of course why the colours are so vibrant and as Paul points out if you get a well looked after print like we have been fortunate to, then this print is like buying a brand new release!
