I am having trouble with AOL VR, and I am having to use Firefox Mozilla to get onto the web, can anyone on the forum help me.

Everytime I try and log onto AOL I get an Error message of please restore snmaster.idx file, but as I'm not really a computer friendly person, everything I've tried has failed, has any other members come accross this on AOL, and do you have an answer for me, here's hoping!

I would recommend that you contact AOL on their telephone support line. I know it can be a nuisance but I have found that it is invariably the best course of action. Hopefully they will confirm that it is something very simple and will have you up and running again in no time.

Paul.

I agree; contact AOL on 08444995555. They are very helpful, and will talk you through from your problem screen. I lost my connection completely (I think it was my fault because I closed a network I didn't recognise... it was their new broadband network!) Total patience, total professionalism ,total satisfaction.

Paul & Martin,

I've tried that, but even they seem to be scratching there heads, still it did lead to a better deal, as we are using an old BT Modum at the moment, and now we are getting a new router, and our monthly package costs are being halved from £29.99 to £14.99, so perhaps the new software that will come with the new router will cure this problem, but if anyone still has any ideas please let me know.

Is it worth switching to Tiscali? Around £20 per month will get you unlimited access and all telephone calls to 01 and 02 numbers free (i.e. all landlines + just about every major overseas calls - I recently telephoned Italy for nothing!).

Hi Barry,I recently had trouble with AOL,I could'nt get online at all. After numerous attempts and 48 hours later with increasing blood pressure I rang their helpline and within twenty minutes I was back on line.I have now gone on to Windows Vista via a wireless router and the computor has never been so fast.Colin the computor boffin who looks after my repairs would'nt entertain Tiscali, but there again he's not keen on AOL either. Is'nt Tiscali something to do with Carphone Warehouse? If so it's all AOL.My broadband with AOL is £9.99 per month.Your problem I've never come across with AOL but I thought I would put in my tuppenyworth just the same, best wishes,Peter.

My problem with AOL has just lately been the very slow speed at which everything happens - pages are loading soooooooooooo slowly.
Never had this problem til a few weeks back.
When I phoned them they offered free upgrade to the higher speed within ten days (not sure why it takes ten days - do they have to send guys down a hole to set up new cables!!!!????? [Roll Eyes] ), AND a drop in price from £17.99 pm to £14.99pm.
I'm waiting to see where the catch is.

Tiscali is just the best deal around Peter. Like all these internet companies they have their problems and I know of people having serious issues with Tiscali but I could probably repeat that for just about every internet provider in business today.

But my solution to internet problems is to vote with your feet. Problems with one provider, switch to another.

I had a very similar problem and people i work with have as well,

You can try this, If you have done any updates recently for either XP or Vista,(especially the later) try going into the roll back part of your PC and roll back the last couple of updates, it seems that some of the windows updates are clashing with some mother boards and internet IP addresses are being locked out.

At least us Mac users can just sit back and smile [Razz] Its bad enough looking after many Windows PC's at work without having to do it at home.
Give me OSX any day. Always starts up OK, no virus's, worms, spyware or malware to worry about...well not at the moment at least!
