It has been such a long time since I was last in a position to contribute to this thread. My 16mm projectors both developed problems at the same time, which must be in excess of 2 years ago. Thus I stuck to my super 8 collection. However, a trip to Kevin Brown in Nottingham for a full overhaul has proved very beneficial. So tonight, I screened films that have been in my possession most of that time but never watched.

It kicked off with an episode from Sgt.Bilko starring Phil Silvers entitled "Bilko's Casino"

Then...... the one I have been itching to watch for soooooo long......

Close Encounters of The Third Kind - The Special Edition. A flat print bought from a fellow forum member via Ebay AGES ago. Still very good colour with moderate scratching. Extremely watchable and very enjoyable.

.........There will be more 16mm nights coming up as I have a lot more to watch. So "watch this space" !!!!

    Tonight:

Confessions of a Train Spotter: Michael Palin's epic journey from London to Scotland with side trips through the world (-and the minds) of railway fans. He takes side trips to a heritage line, the Railway Museum at York, and he rides on an excursion behind the Flying Scotsman.

    Confession of a Film Collector:
This wonderful print came from E-bay but is only part one. While I certainly hope Mr. Palin was successful in his journey, until Part 2 pops up (-someday...maybe), I can't be 100% sure he ever got to Scotland!

That's why film collecting these days is a little like fishing: you know what you want, but sometimes you just reel in whatever is swimming past and decide to want that!

Tonight: New Zealand: the Land and its People

This is kind of an 8mm Forum inspired print! I'm not saying I wouldn't have bought it without Graham Ritchie telling us here about his homeland, but it was certainly an incentive!

Had a mate around from work who wanted to see my IB tech print of Bullitt, although i already viewed this one recently, i was more than happy for a repeat viewing, a classic film on great stock and in very good condition.

Student Prince - managed to buy it on a local auction recently and is one of my favourite films! Picture is a bit soft and the last reel has bad scratch down the middle, but beggars can't be choosers, so I will live with that and simply enjoy it!

    Some pics from the screening:

The video projector is permanently mounted, but the 8mm and 16mm projectors come out when needed:

Last night I watched an educational film I just bought: The Ecology of Barrier Islands.

Now, I'll grant you this is not exactly Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments, but maybe even on a personal level, this worked for me. I live on the Atlantic coast and a lot of the locations look a lot like places I've grown up with. The scenery was wonderful and the film itself was beautifully filmed.

-and just maybe I...learned a couple of things!

Last night I watched Witness (1985) with Harrison Ford. This has been a favorite movie of mine and I love now having it on 16mm. The sound track is English with foreign subs. Color and contrast is very good.
