Does anybody even know what all these neat little letter pairs mean? (-if anything?)

What's a "GS"? What makes an ST-1200 with twin track sound "HD"? (Of course "M", "O" and "MO" are easy enough.)

Honest: many, many years ago I saw my first ELMO ST-800 on the "used" shelf in a camera store. At that moment I thought it was "STereo"! (Then I got it home and for a short time it had no sound at all!)

I must admit, I was completely taken in by Grahams 'HD'. I know there some rare/ late versions of the machine (which I don't have in any form), so it seemed natural!

Me too Martin- I spent a couple of hours searching for GS1200 specs on the internet!

          Paul,

We may have another "Eupig" on our hands!

I think there may be more chance of seeing an Elmo GS1200HID than an HD.

So, does this REALLY exist ... or not?

                No Osi!

You are actually its creator! Sometimes great things come from typographical errors: I read once that there is a decently large set of words in the English language that only exist because of mistakes made in dictionaries!

Here's an Elmo Unicorn that really does exist: GS-1200 O. It is a GS that is optical only, therefore monaural and very simplified. Our friend Jason Smith actually captured one in Japan: Xenon, no less!

Unlike Nessy or Bigfoot, there is really good photographic evidence for this one!

                Here's the rear panel:

                (No photoshop this time!)

-have you ever seen anything less-"GS" than this panel?

                Here's more of the story:

-Note the single VU meter with blanking panel.

                (This machine isn't alright: it's all-Left!)

The "Eupig" to which Doug refers is actually the Elmig. This was a joint development program between Elmo and Eumig started in 1979. A prototype designated as the GS-938 was built and exhibited at Photopia in 1981, but Elmo abandoned the program when Eumig collapsed in 1982. The idea was to produce a world class super 8 stereo sound projector that combined the best features of the GS1200 with Eumig's patented sound recording and mixing electronics. Ah, what short memories. It was a mere 17 years ago that we had a thread about the Eupig.....

Courtesy of Simon McConway, it told the inspiring story of Zecariah Thompson, who tried to create Super 7mm and also modify a Eumig projector to accept that format.

I like the 4 VU meters in that "photo". 2 for record 2 for playback or was it to be the first matrixed quadraphonic machine?

I am almost starting to feel just a tad guilty for starting this! I can imagine someone, absolutely brand new to the format, hearing about this "projector", and starting a less than fruitful search for it.

                            It's all good fun, Osi!

-it stops being a hobby when you can’t have fun with it!

                              "EUPIG!"

What the audience shouts when the projectionist burps.......
