Well, I had already flashed before the bug warning, so I got to experience that unstoppable alarm! Best part is it revealed my TURBO switch is flakey and I had damaged the ALARM switch by soldering the connections. It needed spade connectors.

All is well now, the capstan alarm is repaired. I'm back to working on the post software. Avisynth should be installed in drive C:, short of using Voodoo registry hacks. I'm using the 32bit version until I find a filter/plugin that is only available in 64bit.

The most important filters for me are for cleanup like ones used in the Avseditplus demo. Dirt, scratches, and excessive grain/noise cleanup like shown in the Avseditplus demo. I've no doubt videofred is using the same filters etc. I'll start there.

Discovered a bug with capstan. If you turn the run sw off while the buzzer is beeping (2sec on 5 sec off) it will get stuck beeping. Will fix that today. So David, can you wait until the next release, some time today.
The youtube video looks very interesting.
Here is the camera mount with the 16mm lens . The speed and turbo switches are a bit hard to reach but they are not used that frequently.

That's good work Stan, anyone using this new hardware combination will never have know the difficulty of drilling out the mounting holes!

I remember having missing files before flashing the msp430, something got mixed up. I'm going to re-flash, I found 5 files that are different comparing what I used against the files you just posted.

I'm now plodding thru the avisynth / virtualdub installation. I'm running out of room on C: and don't install anything there unless forced. That might be why nothing works together.

I think this is something worth checking out. It's a windows gui, and avisynth works thru it.

Since the lowest resolution I can use without clipping the image with this 16mm x 1/2" lens is 2048x1536.

I just tested the 16mm with the BUC02 camera and 20mm spacers. Got the following cropped resolutions:

S8 1820x1300
R8 1580x1140

The board mounting holes have to be elongated. Will measure by how much and add that change to the V13 including the USB3 interconnect.
The adjustment is needed only once and both the S8 and R8 fit OK. S8 is pretty tight.
On another note, the gate mask works good for both formats.

Checked the capstan. Not sure David if you have the latest code. The monitor function works OK for slow and fast speed.
I extended the motor time for the active capstan and it works from the 3rd position but my problem is that the set screws are not tight enough and the motor shaft spins.

Thanks for manual update. V11, it's been a while since I read it. Lot of things I had forgotten, so I'm now keeping the fan, it looks to be worth having for possible startup problems.

Bruce, I hadn't noticed the video sharpening and enhancement on AR0230.
All this hard work to improve our system is very encouraging.

Good work Bruce. Definitely looks like sharpening used. The person doing the ISP code is looking into that. Hopefully he can come up with some fix. One issue though. Some of us do not plan to use this camera but go perhaps go with the e-consystems. I thought that this would give us some clues on the performance of the e-consystems camera since it is similar sensor but now I am not sure. The lens shading looks good but the shading tables may be in the ISP so the e-consystems may have it different and then we are back at square one.

Hi all, in my opinion the "16mm-lens-hdr-mask-comp.avi" Stan posted August 2020 is better than the current AR0230 camera HDR video.
Lots of sharpening making images noisy, colours seem good, overall for a camera this price the results are good, not sure why they added so much sharpening, not good for post processing. The second image is the AR0230 camera.

I'm modifying Kamel's switch plate. This rocker switch for the alarm is larger than I like, but it will fit.

I should be able to test the fan by leaving it on, I think.

E-con camera promo video looks good at 1280. Hope it works as well in your test.

Hi David. Will get back to you on capstan tomorrow. Spent some time playing with the RPI and forgot about the capstan.
The fan switch is there because the kick start cct sometimes does not start up properly with the fan on. You can try powering up with the fan on multiple times and if it is solid you can bypass the switch. I will look into it. Maybe lowering the value of R9 might do the trick.
Arducam support just sent me an email stating that the sensor is noisy due to HDR. This is the guy that did all of the sw which is pretty cool. He also did the ISP code (Image Signal Processor). He will look into it and try to cut the noise down. I thought that the ISP was done by the sensor manufacturer but actually it is done by the board supplier. So this puts a twist to my evaluation i.e. e-consystems board will not be the same as Arducam.
Maybe I will return Arducam cameras and get the e-con one.
