In regard to special effects in 2010, I would assume that the special effects were what was shot in 65mm, so they should look fine. Maybe the effects were done in 35mm instead? As I recall, Star Wars was shot in 35mm, but the effects were shot with VistaVision cameras.the majority of '2010' wasn't shot on 65mm film, just regular 35mm.Comment

That process shot effect sounds a bit like what is called "Garbage mattes" and shows up when the black level or gamma is wrong. I seems tha to get what is now thought to be the "right" look to the overall picture they have undone the work to hide the way the shot was composited.Comment

A couple of 35mm screen shots from one of my trailer reels, which tends to make want to watch the full movie afterwards, screen shots are from the other night.
If you want a bit of a laugh some the following titles are certainly worth a watch, also on a more serious note, the brilliant film "Is Anybody There"? starring Michael Caine and young Bill Milner.
Now say you are the owner of a fishing boat that just happens to blow up after being struck by lightning "BOOM" and you think that being fully insured the insurance would pay out for a new one.....wrong
well the boat owner played by the brilliant Billy Connolly is not going to take it Its a brilliant and very funny Australian film.
"Waking Ned Devine" a brilliant Irish film, this is one we ran at the cinema, highly recommend this one.

Well its back to Saturday night "tonight" at the movies. I must have watched WALL-E a million times since I first ran it at the cinema back in 2008. WALL-E is my favorite CGI animated film, top of my list, and I never get bored watching it, excellent picture and sound.
I was going to have a double feature tonight but after watching WALL-E just a short Super8 film instead.

Here is a interesting comparison, between the original 1982 ET 35mm trailer and the 2002 re-release. The original has faded a little bit but its still very good for its age. I spliced them both onto one of my trailer reels "one after the other" just to get an idea of the difference. Much of what you see on the re-release is on the original as well. Of coarse in 2002, extras were added, but its not far of the original.

A couple more trailer shots
one being from the 3D feature we ran many moons ago called "Shark Boy and Lava Girl" 2005. At the time of running it we had a problem with the Dolby Digital 5:1 track, as a result we asked for another reel, which we received. For years after I still had that faulty reel and as its 3D kept it on a 2000ft reel. Fast forward many years I thought I would run that 3D reel through the Ernemann 2 just for the fun of it. I still have a number of those 3D glasses so my grandson and myself watched that 35mm reel. The 3D turned out to be better than I thought, to top it of my grandson gave it a thumbs up afterwards, The 35mm trailer screen shots shown below is not in 3D.
Another trailer which I think is outstanding screen shots below is of "Letters From Iwo Jima" another feature film print we ran long ago, the location shooting on Iwo Jima itself adds a lot to feel and look the film.

Tonight Sunday night, I thought I would thread up the Ernemann 2 and platter and screen once again the 35mm print of "Labyrinth" from 1986. I have watched this print a number of times now, but never tire of watching it. The picture and sound quality is outstanding, although these days its mostly blu-ray hitting the screen, this 35mm print is really in a class of its own.

Well its Sunday night and thought I would finish of tonight with the full 35mm feature pf "Star Wars" Episode 1. Its not the first time I have run this print through the Ernemann 2 and most likely it wont be the last. I cant remember if I mentioned this before but the full Pod Race in Scope on Super 8 is really good, as with the Scope Super 8 trailer for this film.
Anyway "Episode One" is full on action right through, both the Ernemann 2 and platter ran as with the film print just "perfect" I did take a couple more of up to date screen shots tonight as below, hard to take in that its now been almost 23 years since we went to Hoyts to watch it during its release, it certainly did well during its cinema release out here, all I can add is that even after all those years, its still fun to watch.
PS Only four more years to go for the Ernemann 2 to reach the grand old age of 100

Forgot these
Just before screening it last night I sat back with a glass of wine in hand and listened to John Williams Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of it just after threading, and just before starting. Its a great way to get into the mood for a movie, I remember at the cinema, I would if I could, always thread the projectors up straight away, ready for blast off, never left threading to the last minute.
Ah! memories, glad I don't have to do it anymore well I better go and clean the Ernemann before Muffin Break

Well I thought I better get back to the Ernemann 2 today, its been sitting quiet of late, after watching True-Grit on blu-ray the other night, I was thinking another western would be just the thing so this afternoon put 3:10 to Yuma back onto the platter with hopefully a screening of it very soon. Hi Ken I don't have to many, its amazing where they do pop up from though A friend of mine has a large container full of films, located at a secret location. He did allow me to take this photo when looking at his vast film collection .

Thought I better run a 35mm trailer reel as well as a blu-ray😎 tonight. The 35mm trailer prints look great, not a mark on them, and that had me thinking was there more films to go and see back then than now?, it seems like it. All the trailers are full frame flat with no black bars.
