I decided to give CHC another chance after finding their customer service lacking in the past... so I ordered a horror feature from their most recent list... after waiting for it to arrive the package came today and they sent completely the wrong films -- titles I couldn't be less interested it. They may be doing the best they can, but...really?! Somewhere out there a fan of Fred Astaire and Tom and Jerry are watching a Joan Collins B horror flick wondering wtf?!

I'm torn because I hate to disparage what is one of the only companies left supporting the hobby, but I have had a few bad experiences as well...Paid $500 for what turned out to be a Dutch subtitled print of STRIPES, that was advertised as Beautiful LPP, and $1500 for a Super 8 STAR WARS, that turned out to be scratched and have a reel with out of sync sound....My problem is it can sometimes take me a few years to get around to looking at a print because I have so many (I know, first world problems)...By the time I get around to watching something NO ONE would give me a refund...That being said I have had probably 30 great transactions from CHC, so I really chock it up to a case of best intentions, but limited staff to monitor every transaction on used prints...There are few like Steve Osborne who will look at every print before they re-sell them....

Brian, By coincidence, I recently ordered from CHC a Fred Astaire film (You Were Never Lovelier) and a Tom & Jerry cartoon (Mouse Trouble). Nothing has arrived yet, but now you have me wondering if I'm going to find a horror film in my mailbox instead.
If I do, I'll let you know. In the meantime, enjoy Fed and T&J.

I must personally say that I have never had a problem with CHC, and I'm betting that these situations are definitely the exception and not the rule, as a business couldn't function for long if this was the case.

Brian, i have had many bad experiences over the years and i don't bother in dealing with CHC, the same goes for other well know film dealers.
The only ones i can truly recommend is Ian of Perry's Movies along with Paul Foster as a close second. Who have been in the business as long as Derann back in the day.
A prime example of this is whilst at the BFCC. I bought a feature from CHC. That i arranged to collect from the convention. Advertised as being a good print.
When i brought it home to view it, turned out that the film was incomplete.

I'll take Joan over twinkle-toes and a cartoon cat and mouse any day! No, all films are great... we all have different tastes and we have to respect that (sort of!). CHC is actually correcting their screw-up - sending Joan to me (what a shock - no-one else ordered I Don't Want To Be Born) and checking their orders to see if someone else had these two coming.
Rich - write to CHC and if these are indeed your films have them send me a note... I will be happy to send them to you directly... rather then sending them two more times across the pond!

Brian - Phil had already sent me an email about the situation. I replied to him, so I expect everything will work out fine. (I trust he'll pay the postage to send me the films...)
These things happen, especially with small businesses. All I expect is that they make the situation right. Hey, I've screwed up, too, on some eBay sales. Just have to promptly fix your mistake.

CHC once messed up an order of mine and when they sent me the correct thing sent me two complimentary halogen bulbs. Two new spare bulbs, what a nice gesture - until I realised it was two empty bulb boxes...

What a brilliant and uplifting example of camaraderie that has been shown on this forum between Brian and Rich. To me, this typifies the quality of the type of people on this forum and also involved in this wonderful hobby of ours. Just think of how long it would have taken to send each parcel back to the UK, just to be re-distributed back to the States? Well done chaps!

Melvin - Thanks! I was happy to help and not cause headaches for another collector... this hobby is supposed to take us away from the stress of life not add to it.
Rich - Glad your films reached you safely. Mine arrived from CHC today and I'm about to watch one of the worst horror films ever made, I Don't Want to Be Born... but even bad movies are great when they're on Super 8! Wait that sounds like a great ad line they could have used back in the day!
