Here's another universal 8 two reeler to look out for. After the title sequence,we witness a old priest telling a young man the story of Kharis. The old priest passes to the young man a chain, the young man, played by Turhan Bey,vows revenge by going to the U.S.A,and claim back, both Kharis and his beloved. In a small Amercian town,we see a shadow, dogs get scared, and we see a elderly man, getting ready for bed. The window opens, and the figure of Khairs(Lon Chaney Jr);enters the room, and with his strong grip, kills the old man. As the mummy slips away;the old man's family, are left puzzled. Molded is found on the old man's neck..the police are at a loss. Turhan Bey,is of course,Khairs's watcher, and the next night sends him out, this time,it's the sister of the old man,who gets it. The watchman witteness, this attack, but has a stroke, and can't tell the police anything. We cut to the train station, were we meet Babe Hanson(Wallace Ford);as he talks to his former partners son,John Banning(John Hubbard);as they drive by car. That night,Babe, meets up with Khairs, and comes to a sticky end. The law is getting desparte now,so they call on the services of Professer Norman(Frank Riecter);he confirms, that the dirt around each victims throat,is indeed, moled. The high priest, meanwhile, has turned his attentions,to Isobel(Elyse Knox);and sends out the mummy to capture her. This it does, but as the high priest is about to give Isobel, the tana fliud;the local rent-a-mob arrive. The mummy takes the girl away;as the high priest confronts the mob. A shot is heard, the preist falls, and the mob give chase. We are now back at the house ,where it all began for the firey climax... This is,in my view, one of the better Universal8 releases, from years gone by. Iwould point out however, that if the one reeler pops up,buy it too, because there is about a minute of film, not in this two reeler.Still has good print and sound, for it's age.Another to add to the horror fan's collection.Recommend.Andy. It's the Mummy's Curse on your projector, Marshall. Beware the Mummy!
I've always thought these Mummy films were always kind of dumb fun.
I mean, after all, all the person would have to do is run like heck out of there! Mummy's can only run so quick. Now, if a mummy could tele-port himself in a blink of an eye right in front of you, then that's different!
But, what are they going to do when they catch you, proceed to take forever to wrap you up? (Like, your just going to SIT there and be wrapped up for, oh, thrity minutes by a slow moving undead!). Make mummy's cannibalistic, now, that would be cool.
There's something to fear ... Cannibalistic Mummy's!!
Somebody on the forum is shouting at they're computer ...
"It's a bloody movie, not reality!!"
Eh, I'm just going off!
I did run across this print in the past and it was worth a watch!
Could somebody please do a review of the Derann release of that 1959 scope release of the Mummy?
