I found lately that the cost of USPS First Class mail increased signficantly.

For sure it will also give an impact to other servies such as Priority and Global mail.

This makes buying form the USA is no longer cheaper.

Do you notice this?

All rates and services went up. Parcel post is now parcel select. It is not even available when you create a shipment via paypal. Also. they are eliminating Saturday home delivery except for packages.

They are losing literally billions of dollars every year. If it wasn't for the fact that it would take a Constitutional amendment for it to happen, they'd probably go out of business.

Hmmmm...

What would it take to write Kodak into the Constitution? [Wink]

This is the email I got from Ebay about it:

quote:
As someone who has used eBay Labels to purchase Parcel Post® in the past, we want to tell you about a recently-announced change that will go into effect January 27, 2013.
USPS will discontinue Parcel Post service as of January 27, 2013. Active listings with Parcel Post will automatically be updated to the new comparable replacement service—Parcel Select®—which will be available in the selling flow and shipping calculator as of January 27.
Know that the new Parcel Select service will not be available for purchase through eBay Labels until March. Sellers that wish to utilize this service before it is available via eBay Labels—and sellers who have sold items with the Parcel Select service—will need to go to the post office or an alternate online postage provider (i.e. Pitney Bowes, Endicia.com, Stamps.com, etc.) to purchase this class of service. Also, be sure to upload tracking information within your stated handling time. If you would like to continue to take advantage of the convenience of eBay Labels until Parcel Select is added to the eBay Labels system, consider temporarily offering a similar service.
As always, thank you for selling on eBay!
Sincerely,
The eBay Shipping Team

I think their Media mail service is just to cheap in this current economic condition. And those films and vinyls collectors are the most benefited with this service ($5 for sending 5 films from East to West!).

But I am wondering too knowing USPS losses so much money, it still offers FREE packing material (boxes & envelopes) where in other country we have to buy at least $2 each. Joe Taffis who I know works with USPS may you probably explain this incridible policy?

Yes, it is unfortunate. The US shipping didn't go up much but the international rates went up a lot. Which is to bad [Frown]

Hi Winbert, I retired from the U.S. Postal Service at the end of 2011. Forty-one years in the workforce was enough for me, time to take it easy. Only Priority shipping boxes and envelopes are offered for "free", but they get back the cost when you ship the item. For example, a large Priority Flat Rate box is free, but you pay $16.85 to mail it, a portion of which covers the cost of the box. All regular service boxes and materials for parcel post, etc. are not free. You do have to pay for the items....
