A public accolade to our great moderator, and top-film friend Doug. We recently conducted a nice trade and am most satisfied - This is what our forum is all about; friendship and an exchange of good information - Thanks Doug, from Shorty

Hi Joe

It is nice to see you handing out a public accolade to Doug but we members can only observe silently from the side & wonder.

Why do we wonder?
Because you have not given us any details of this deal Doug & you have done. There has been no disclosure to the members at all about the details. Just an expression of great satisfaction & much praise to Doug, but its only after the deal has already been done. Its too late for us to help you.
You have done the deal completely on your own.

You have written...

"This is what our forum is all about; friendship and an exchange of good information"

OK.... that sounds good...
but where is evidence of the "exchange of information" about this "great deal" to the Forum Members for debate & general airing of opinions.?

If great deals are being done, why aren't all members being told the full story?
I.E. The item you were sold, & the price that you paid.

Maybe others here would want to do the same deal.
Why cut them out of the action?
It doesn't seem fair, does it Joe?
After all, we are fellow Forum Members & here to look after each others problems & lend moral support to the confused.

If we could all make comment on what we thought of the overall deal and thus be really involved, then the Forum is seen to be doing its job for us & driving prices down for all.
You, on the other hand, would get great benefit from the members who would volunteer much advice about wether you are really getting a good deal or not.
The "great deal" may turn out to be somewhat less than "great" once its analysed by the collective knowledge of the whole forum.

You can't really be sure you got a good deal, because at the moment, the only people that think it was great is you & Doug.

Why not use the vast experience of all the forum members before committing to, or closing any such deals in future?
We are always ready to advise & make sure you get a good deal.

When buying stuff from Doug or anyone else for that matter, we members will always act in your interests, because we all know that one day, we too may need similar advice from the Forum.

I think some, if not most of the Forum Members will agree with me on this very sensitive issue. We will see if there is any responses.

Anyway, congratulations to both of you for the excellent outcome of this private deal.

Okay, he had a 200' Color-Sound print with box of THE TALL MEN, which he swapped for my Super 8 Sound-B&W 200' print with box of THE YOUNG LIONS - We're happy and hope to conduct further business

Come on now Frank, surely a mutually beneficial trade between forum mmembers does not have to be discussed or scrutinised by everyone here?

Be assured, you are not left out of the loop, dude? I personally don't know anyone who plays favorites on this forum, (well, I know that I don't).

Besides, you and I and everyone on thid forum benefit each and everyday from Doug's great work. He is one of the moderators and is responsible, (as well as Kevin and Brad), for the excellent content and doing they're best to keep this place a happy, pleasant and largely informative place that it is.

Wish i could help you more with your searches for rare titles Joe! (I also wish there was a Son's of the Desert chapter close by. I think the closest, sadly, is in Utah. What would one have to do to start one up here?).

I have to disagree with you a little, Frank. Of course we have to free to do trades and deals amongst each other without it being detailed here.

It would be like buying something on eBay without posting it here first, it's no big deal and it happens.

It sounds to me like somebody was trying to say something nice about somebody else.

Really shouldn't be any need to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt...

Besides, I've met Doug (in the three dimensional world, no less). He is nice!

Same goes for Joe!

I think Frank was probably trying to be humorous. Sometimes the intent of the writer is lost in forum postings.
My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Doug at the Ealing BFCC a few years back, and he is certainly a great guy, and we all appreciate his moderating efforts on this forum.

Good Morning to all in the forum.
At least I can now see that the members do read these posts.....

It was written with tongue in cheek & so am rather surprised anyone would take my ramblings seriously...

If we can lighten up a bit now & then & have a bit of a laugh it can help us all as we try to overcome serious projector issues.
It was not meant to be at anyones expense. Especially Dougs.

My twisted humour has resulted from over exposure to Projectors & I am trying to recover from this affliction.
The prospects of a full recovery are rather dim I am told.

Wow.....I'm only just reading this thread now and it seems to have caused quite the stir!

Joe, thank you very much for the kind words. I'm looking forward to our next confidential covenant.

Frank, that has to be the most deadpan post I've ever read.

Thanks to all for the compliments. I'm thrilled to be a part of this amazing Forum.

This could have all been avoided if only the "Additional Graemlins" link worked... [Razz]

Frank could have inserted appropriately goofy little faces, here, there and everywhere after each bit of sarcasm....

Nice one, Frank! [Cool] You really had some members going. [Eek!]

All seriousness aside, I think there is an underlying conspiracy to to stifle the private and public trading practices by using mind control tactics of the third kind. Yes the third kind! I know for a fact that Doug was seen at a Manhattan Burger King with a bag containing not burgers and fries, but rather small films on cores ready to be picked up by an anonymous bystander wearing an inconspicuous trench coat, an actor by the name of Shorty a.k.a. Flickers Caruso. Later to be disclosed on this very forum as a "good deal". Who knows what dastardly deeds go untold in the dark world of polyester. [Big Grin]

Yes it is my name Chris,

Here is my card, picturing me as a younger man.
This was before morphing into a Projector Dogtor one day.

I look a bit rougher nowdays, with a long wild beard & am quite scruffy in general.

Thanks for the expressions of support from some individual forum members listed above.
Some wanted me drawn & quartered... hmmmmm that would hurt...

I would like to reply to you all individually now, but must do it at another time.
My Cockatoo is now calling me now & I must tend to his evening feeding & watering.

Then later on, I will try to assist newbie projector owners with getting their machines going.

Its always a full day here at Projector Heaven, but I keep at it & hope to be doing this till I drop.

Hi Stuart
Thanks for your good advice' Shorter is better & in future, I will try to restrict my comments to technical advice, as these rants can lose something in the translation & be misunderstood.

Stewart, do really want Frank's sarcasm to be shorter than you naivety(oink!oink!)? I think "sarcasm " is the wrong word, but rather dry wit. Stirred not shaken. [Big Grin]
