Hi all,
I am not into 16mm (yet) so know nothing about this format. However, yesterday I found a bunch of cartoons in one store. The size of the reel is sort of 7 inch (so I think this is equal to 200 feet film, right?).
They were all colors and with my bare eyes I could see no fade at all...this is good.
Films have both perforation on left and right.
But what I am going to clarify, I don't see any magnetic stripe nor optical soundtrack, are they silent?
Are there many color silent films (of originally sound film) in 16mm? if yes, what is the reason to show film without sound ...? (ps: I understand in 8mm this a common things but merely due to budget consideration. Is this also the reason for 16mm?)

Perfs on both sides of film strip was common before sound technology arrived. Cartoons may be slapstick in format which would be funny just by viewing, or may have subtitles just like earlier movies shown in theaters.

Hi Winbert,
Do the cartoons have boxes or cases -- if so can you post pictures? I'm very curious about more details.
If they are newer films and double perforated, they could have had a separate magnetic sound track. In film school, this was a very common to add sound onto your films.
Congrats on getting into 16mm! I think you will really like this format and it's always good to start with cartoons...
