Uh, you clearly misunderstood something Peter Jackson said, Graham. 48fps has no strobing. That's the whole point of using it for 3D.
When Jackson went back to 24fps, THEN he saw strobing and other effects that we normally don't notice because we have gotten used to those effects.
Also, I read a review where the reviewer said that he was so engrossed in the movie that he forgot he even had 3D glasses on.
I expect all kinds of mixed reviews in the days to come.

Well, that was your experience. I, on the other hand experienced no such ill effects.
3D simply does not bother me no matter how long I view it and for that I am thankful as I LOVE 3D!
