During the wait and see what if period of the storm Dorian, I was asked to show some movies at my sister's house. She had her husband's family staying there as they evacuated from the East side of the state.
Several years ago Jack (brother in law) had given me the super 8 films shot by his late Father and asked if I could transfer to video for him. I wasn't in the mood to do this being an advocate for projection - but I went ahead and did a decent job. Jack was pleased and said it was OK to keep the films.
Jump forward to this week.
I brought over a tripod screen, a trusty GS 1200, and the four reels of silent movies to my sister's house. As it would happen, the evening was fine we never lost power - not even a quick off-on.
So there I was at the back end of her kitchen the projector on the center island. And the tripod screen 22 feet up the other end blocking the unused fireplace.
A truly remarkable experience. Everyone who was there gathered close to the screen. Laughing, talking about who they were seeing from way back when.
An evening I will not soon forget. Just as it was nearly 50 years ago!
