Hi all

I posted this in gen yak - due to it crossing 2 formats - but thought it may be intersting.

8mm/16mm what have been..or are the best prints you have ever sought after...got hold of..holy grail..and ultimately quality wise prints you have had in your hands and run through YOUR OWN projector . You MUST have owned it and shown it..

I will start with one of the best prints that ever came my way - that print of mine has since gone on to be sold around the world after I sold it on - 16mm "RoboCop". an absolutely stunning print..you could have blown that up to 30ft easy and looked on in awe.

Must be my The Adventures of Robin Hood print. Excellent quality and something that show what Super 8 can do

Another great print I had in 16mm was "Godfather"3 what a print...unfortunately the film was a bit of a let down..although I think it was overly criticised...because it was quite good!

The ones that spring to mind instantly are Singin in the Rain, Predator, Adventures of Robin Hood when they finally got it right virtually all the Disneys features except Little Mermaid. The Old Mill,Lonesome Ghost, Flowers & Trees and Three Little Pigs always stood out in shorts department.Skeleton Dance for its age was a brilliant print. The film I seemed to always play to new audiences was The Time Machine.

If I was pushed I would say Predator had the slight edge I think the super 8 version is better than than the first DVD release and The Old Mill for a short. Even the original Disney release was excellent but the Derann release was faultless.

Hi Mike

I had "Predator"...what a print!! I took a pal to a Derann Open Day and they showed the full 8mm "Predator"...he wasn't even into our hobby...and he said it was stunning!!

Super 8. For colour and grain I'd say the Derann release of "Buccaneer Bunny", closely followed by their Disney release "Aladdin" and for colour but worse grain the Marketing 400ft of "True Grit"

16mm don't have much so wouldn't like to say.

The Lone Wolf full length print on Super 8 of "El Cid", it is absolutely stunning. On 16mm a lovely Technicolor print of Disney's "Rob Roy: The Highland Rogue" with Richard Todd and the gorgeous Glynis Johns. Also 3 lovely LPP prints of Sean Connery in "The Name Of The Rose", "The Hunt For Red October" and "Outland". All thankfully still in my possession.

Mark, if you meant my Robin Hood it's the full feature on 2x1200'

16mm? Quite a few low fade nice prints. Up the Creek has okay colours, so has Splash. Problem is that they are almost all rescued prints and some splices occur. For colour, they are great

Thunderball scope and re-recorded stereo
Indiana and the Last Crusade scope and stereo re-record

Short: The British 200 ft of Monroe doing Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. That's the reel I pull out when I want to show anyone what the Super 8 format is capable of.

Diamonds was a cracker of a short. Print wise in was superb. Joe did you not think Invisible Man and Bride of Frankenstein had the edge over The Mummy.

My 16mm original print of Curly Sue is gorgeous. Unfortunately I only have Reels 1 & 2. Since the chance of locating the 3rd reel is probably nil to none...I show the last 25 minutes on my digital projector.

That's really hard to "guage" ... (snicker)

different subjects ...

1. Rarest 1977 "Close Encounters" feature. Runner up, Cineavision STAR WARS feature.

2. Sharpest Broadway Danny Rose Super 8 optical sound feature, I'm still stunned as to HOW they could have made THAT sharp of a super 8 print.

3. Rarest short/cartoon Picnic Panic (1936) Lovely Agfa print, I think it was a print from the Netherlands.

4. Most sought ... "Life and Times of Grizzly Adams" (1974) HA!
Have to think of some more subjects ...

On super 8, West Side Story is the best looking (marvelous Kempski); on 16mm Big Daddy is the best (and I just admitted I own a print of an Adam Sandler movie-d'oh!).

The best 16mm print that i ever owned was The Goonies 1985 LPP Scope.Two of my favorites that i currently own on 16mm are Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jaws.The 16mm film that i have hunted high and low for and would be a dream to own is 1986 Flight of the Navigator.

A couple of others I had that were very..very good quality..

"Night of the Hunter" and a very rare version of Rene Clairs "thriller" - "And Then There Were None" although this had the original title "10 Little..N.." very un pc but a stunning print both.

I sold "Hunter" to the editor of the Sunday Times supplement..wish I had kept it.

Best Prints are "Greatest Show on Earth" Mint IB TECH
"One Two Three" B&W Scope sharp as a razor. Neither my favourite films but best examples of 16mm I've seen.

Now in the possession of a very well known American Collector.

Are you speaking of the original castle Films digest of the Mummy, or the Universal 8 reprints of the title?

Actually, come to think of it, did Universal 8 make any changes to "The Mummy" when they reprinted it?

Probably the best colour ones I owned was a 16mm Kodachrome print of White Christmas..that was stunning in quality and saturation also I had a very nice low fade print of Yellow Submarine which whilst needing a lot of cleaning initially was very nice indeed. I also had some great episodes of the Twilight Zone at one time that were exceptional quality... [Smile]

Best super 8 prints- I assume we are talking about the quality of the print itself (picture and sound)-

Best color print:

Aliens- Derann. So sharp, perfect colors, great stereo track.

Best B&W print:

Night N' Gales (Our Gang)- Blackhawk. Sharp, great contrast, perfect all the way.

Many, many other great super 8 prints, but these particular ones just perfect.
