I know they came out with pink boxes first but which colors came next the green then the silver? Thanks

anytime - as a fact of matter, in 1952 when Blackhawk released 8mm shorts, of Roach and Keystone particularly, the boxes were 200' or those holdong 2X200', plain they were and simply stamped with the 810 code number, whether the subject was L&H, Chaplin or anyone - Following was, the Indian teepee and logo, which later showed a photo from the film depicted, as many L&H film boxes will show this - Fascinating - Rand Eastin is working on the Blackhawk book, so I'm sure he'll have the details - I sent him my Blackhawk file of information, helping all I can - Shorty

That is interesting shorty! Thanx for sharing the additional info, because i went downstairs to see one of my older blackhawks and wondered how old it was and you have answered that!

So is there any difference in quality between the pink, green and silver boxes.

Based on my experience, the green box didn't come out until circa 1977.

Regarding the quality(of the film, not the box), the general consensus is that the silver box usually indicates a superior quality film print enclosed. This is a result of Blackhawk obtaining superior pre-print material around this time. Your mileage may vary.

I personally think that the pink box era had better quality than the green box era. This being the result of Blackhawk having a better lab do its printing.

Now remember, when you get a print there is no guarantee that someone didn't switch boxes at some point. It happens, whether accidentally or on purpose. So go by the date code on the film itself to more accurately date the film and ascertain the quality.

No, actually I had green boxes by early '76 - Notwithstanding, with each shift in box variation came new pre-print, new negs as it were - Quality was still good though you had the occasional washy-look to HOG WILD and MEN O WAR, as example - We're lucky to have what we have, especially with the silent films of that time - The Std 8 prints in 200' were especially nice, those came direct from 16 originals - They still maintain a sharpness you seldom find in later Super 8 - Shorty - Oh, Rand mentioned the book will take time, hope to hear some news next in the coming year

I can believe that green boxes came out as early as '76, but '73 was way too early for those. My first green box didn't arrive until late '77.

We should also mention the "Lee Enterprises" monkey-wrench. These can be pink or green. I prefer prints in the older Eastin-Phelan boxes before Lee took over.
