Hi everyone ,
I'm new to the site , so please forgive me if I'm asking redundant questions here , but , do any of you make your own films, on any format (for the sake of clarity , my question includes video of any sort as well as film) as well as collecting/appreciating them?

Just curious.

A lot of us make our own. I work mostly in Super-8, and shoot some video here and there too.

The problem is when you run one of your own right after a multi-million dollar production made by pros the comparison can be a little harsh.

Still the same, Stephen Spielberg isn't going to make films about my son growing up and what our lives are like, so I guess I'd better!

Hello Robert, welcome.

I am a broadcast video shooter by trade, with a sideline as a frustrated filmmaker [Big Grin]

I have had a few chances along the way to do independent work where I got to shoot/edit/score and such, but mostly I am a "hired gun" for gov't/news/corporate work.

I am actually just finishing editing a long video of a post-wedding party I shot for some old friends, so a good way to get back into cutting, which I have always loved.

Good to hear.
Too true also , looking at our own creation projected on screen is a lot more fun in my opinion. I've been toying with the idea of putting on a little film festival here in my town . No rules , that is , I don't want people to feel that something has to be shot on expensive equipment or has to be of a certain length , to be accepted .I would love to show all formats , film/video/ even stuff shot on cellphones or made from flipbooks , side by side , over a weekend or so and in any kind of venue possible, from the local movie theatre to supermarket carparks , shopping mall hallways , cafes - you name it.
I'll procrastinate a little longer , I'm sure though.
Anyone have movies they made themselves posted online for viewing anywhere?

Gotta put the bread and butter on the table Claus .
I'm just getting into using Final Cut and am really enjoying the editing process.

My wife is getting a laptop for Christmas, and I gave it to a fellow to add software to it in the meantime and he's going to include what (he says) is some pretty spectacular video editing software.

Still the same, making films in Super-8 was something I really enjoyed doing as a teenager. All of my years in college and the decade that followed I kept coming up with ideas I'd like to pursue, but I missed being able to do them.

When I found out I could still do it 8 years ago It was awesome to be able to do this wonderful thing again with adult sensibilities (and Internet access). I don't think I'll give it up as long as I can.

There's just something great about having a bunch of rolls of film in the fridge and a really good idea.

Robert, I'm self-employed and more than half of my assignements now are commercials, corporate videos, newsclips and educationnal videos. I've done a few music videos. I just created an animated mascot for our national postal services (I'm also a graphic artist).
I haven't had the opportunity to include super 8 in my works. We mostly shoot and edit in HDV.

We have a bunch of Sony Z1s. And when HD isn't needed, I get my old trusty PD170.

I've spent the last week or so drooling over the RED Scarlet/Epic renders [Razz]

but also would love to buy a nice Bolex H16 that I've heard about recently, in excellent condition and just sitting there waiting to be sold.
