New belt (made my own)
2 day of work to get the setup running.
Here is the result:

Actually quite decent for a simple setup like this. Nice colors and almost 0 flicker.
The projector speed adjustment has a nice range and very easy to get close to 0 flicker.
Here is the comparison Hawkeye

Obviously Hawkeye is quite a bit more money and more work to setup and much longer scan time...
My converted project is the super 8mm Bell & Howell 1462 / 1481.

Here you go, Robin. I like the RPI lens because the inner black part slides in and out nicely (with the outer blue barrel section firmly gripped by the projector, making tight focussing easy). I've set the focus on my camcorders (HS9 and GS300) to full "in", and adjusted the zoom. The L/R/up/down/skew tolerances are pretty tight with alignment but it can be done easily. I made up a camcorder mounting table, similar to Stan's shown earlier, which helped a lot in fine-adjusting the optics.
Lens as shipped (Stan's pic):
My lens, stripped:
The black front part (right end in this pic) slides in and out.
Focussing video attached.
