I,ve always thought with HD etc the absolute best you could get is to shoot on film, then put that in to HD, even better 70mm for the origional elements.
You only have to look at the 70mm based Blu Rays, Zulu, Chitty etc to see how amazing they look.
They are missing a trick not shooting much on film.

Digital originals will last forever if backed up and transferred to the latest media. Since it is digital, it will be an exact copy with no loss of resolution, unlike film. It is the media itself that won't last forever.
