Unfortunately my recent purchase of an Elmo 16-CL did not arrive in working condition. The clue was when I turned it on and heard a load "clunking" sound. This is my first 16mm projector...but I knew there was something wrong. I removed the back and zero'd in on where the sound was originating...Bingo!....a broken gear...bummer!
The photo below shows it is the Worm Gear Assy on the right side of the machine behind the flywheel.
The good news is that if I can find a replacement part...this is very easy to install. So I'm asking if any of you have a spare 16CL junker machine out there and would be willing to sell this part to me. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can help me out.

Hi Janice,
The archive I work for has several of these -- most are not operational but, could be used for parts. Let me talk to them, perhaps they'll sell you the part...

I appreciate you asking anyway Gerald. Maybe they'll change their mind ...or consider selling me a whole machine. If they don't want too much for it...that might be a way to go. What are they going to do with a bunch of non-working projectors?
I guess I'll throw out my request again to you forum members. If you have one of these gears that you are willing to part with... please email or PM me.

You'll need to purchase a new set of rollers from Larry Urbanski
He is the only one I know of that has constant stock, and I have raided all of my parts' machines for rollers , so I have no more extras...If you scroll down towards the end of the page you will see the listing..

Dino...I really didn't expect you to have any rollers. They are probably the first things to get scavenged. :-) It's better I get new ones anyway. I'll just be thrilled to get the gear.

Hey Janice.... let me know how you like your 16CL when you get it up and running. I just got mine in today from Dan Lail, is in good shape, just needs a good cleaning. My first 16 as well.

Will do Greg! I'm hoping after replacing the gear and the rollers mine should be good to go. Congrats on your 16-CL too! This should be fun.

I replaced the broken gear. If you compare the picture of the broken gear and the new gear you'll notice that the old gear fits back further on the center post then the new one. I couldn't get the new one to slide back on the post any further. It seems to be running ok...but I was just wondering if anybody knows if this will cause a problem in it's present position?
I should be getting delivery of the new rollers next week.

Janice I would add some grease to the gear, but have you loosened all of the little connectors with an allen wrench? it seems it should slide back Ok..

Thanks for the response Dino. Yes the grub screws were almost falling out. In hind-sight I should have greased it a little before putting on the new gear. After I noticed it wasn't pushed back far enough, I couldn't budge it in either direction....bummer I will try and see if I can move it by adding a little grease.
UPDATE: Well I got the gear to move back just a hair...it's now flush with the center post...but the belt holds it very tight in place so I think it's fine..... I just hope I never have to replace the gear again...I'll never get it off I ran a roll of blank film I had thru it...no problem...very smooth!

It looks like my DOA Elmo 16-CL has been resuscitated I just installed the new rollers, which was much easier than I thought it was going to be. I'm just now waiting on a new bulb to arrive so I can really test it out

Great Greg!..I've only got some 16mm home movies to try. I'm looking for a sound print. Can't wait to hear how your first movie goes
