  • Hello Everyone

I am most impressed with your project and selfless dedication. Thank You.

I have a Wolverine Pro and have reviewed the cost sheet.

1> May I request an assembled board kit and also a Capstan kit when they become available?
2> Has the camera recommendation changed since the V3 User Manual?
3> How do I pay for the kits; both board and capstans? Google Pay, Paypal, other?

    Regards

    Chris

    • Chris welcome.
I added your name to the requests sheet. So currently I have 10 units to do. That is one half of total units to be built but I am sure other people will need it so qty 20 for auto assembly looks pretty good.

It is still the same imagingsource. You can get it from oemcameras.
      https://www.oemcameras.com/dfm-72buc02-ml.htm
Make sure to include the 12mm lens f2.8 and the holder with the set screw - $189

You can pay via paypal or google pay once you receive the goods.

      • The V10 USB mod works good:
        https://photos.app.goo.gl/3ZMw5oocrCT2AV1B7

I will now proceed with the V11 mods and get qty 5 boards for testing. Then get the auto assembly set up for 20 boards.
BTW - have some V10 and older blank boards for free if interested. You just cover the shipping costs.

V11 done. The design files are available at:

        • Bruce If you have the time and are able to post a DXF of your "Toothed Pulley" I would be grateful. I have printed the parts and the toothed pulley is smaller than the back pulley.

I'm using Fusion360 with a non commercial license. It does not support Inventor files. Trying to modify the stl is TOO HARD!

The parts should fit, but the printer changes the dimensions. That seems wrong when they were all printed together.

          Thanks in advance.

            • Hi David, sounds like your printer might be over extruding slightly, I have exported the 3D DXF files as
Autocad 2013 dxf files also included STEP files just in case they are helpful.
The free version of Fusion360 has import limitations.

              • Thanks Kamel. Glad I can help.
I checked your back pulley Bruce and the hole for the motor shaft is 2.22mm dia and the shaft is 2.17 so in may case I will have to make it a bit smaller I believe for a snug fit.

                • Thanks Bruce, I'll try dropping the extrusion rate too.

Bruce, you nailed it! I dropped the flow rate by 10% and everything fits like a glove. I have measured the parts and they match my printed parts.

Sadly, F360 will only import a 2d DXF. I can upload the DXF files to AutoDesk's cloud where I have a viewer that can measure. Looks like all 3D files are blocked from F360 import.

Now the bad news. The teeth do not match the film. Measuring the pitch is not available. I was able to measure teeth, tip to tip, 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock at 18mm. That is both the file and my part in hand. That is just for you to compare with intent. I see you thought you had made your final post on this subject, so I won't pursue this.

I can scale in CURA and will see where that goes. Maybe it's time to abandon the toothed pulley and make a pinch roller?

I have an idea that might work. I have some TPU that prints soft and flexible. Finding a pinch roller would be unpredictable, probably from old tape recorder parts. Just a thought.

                  • Hi Stan, not sure if you missed my post http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/vbb/fo...=4081#post4081

As mentioned printers are not all the same and everyone's calibration of a printer can vary considerably. In my case I calibrate extrusion rate by printing a hollow 25mm sq x 10mm high single wall model, the bottom and sides are measured with a micrometer and adjustments are made to flow rate and height of the bed until it is correct (in other words if extruding at 0.4mm then the side walls of the print must measure 0.4mm). PETG does not like over extrusion, PLA is more forgiving but that has dimensional consequences, if over extruding.

My printer in this case (printing a 2mm dia bore/hole) prints slightly under size so I have to draw the model bore a slightly larger size for the (in this case about 0.2mm dia) bore to end up at 2mm dia. If you think of the physics of this, one is extruding a thick honey consistency plastic in a circle, as the nozzle travels in a circle it tends to drag the plastic behind the nozzle towards the center of the circle causing the hole to become slightly smaller.

If you know that the company printing your model can print the bore on size then yes you need to reduce the size to 2mm. It may be safer to make the bore a thou or two (0.025mm dia) under size (if you know it will be printed on size) so that you can ream the bore for final finishing with a 2mm dia drill or a reaming tool (if you have one), this will remove any inconsistencies in the printed bore and bring to exact size (by the way I used a 2mm drill for this, very carefully inserted to make sure it goes in parallel to the bore axis). I found the 2mm dia bore was a snug fit onto the motor shaft.

This explanation is probably longer than you required but there are so many variables in 3D printing, it can be a complex subject.

                    Regards - Bruce

                    • Hi David, 10% change in extrusion rate is a considerable amount, measuring overall dia of the teeth with a vernier mine come out at an overall of 17.6mm.

Sorry to hear the teeth do not mesh with the film, my prints do not have that problem, they mesh very nicely through the full 360 degrees.

The pinch roller may not be such a good idea, if any slippage occurs the film emulsion may or will be damaged (the emulsion is on the bottom side as the film passes through, if the capstan is in the first location). Finding the balance between pinch roller pressure and the friction created could be difficult. The film may not be easily pushed or pulled through the pinch mechanism depending on loading.

The final post comment, the only reason, I thought everyone was becoming tired of the same subject matter. It seems this item is causing considerable problems.

                      Regards - Bruce

P.S. do not know what filament you are using and how much bed squish you are using, but slower speeds are better for such small items. Slicer I use is S3D and my speed settings for small items using PETG:-
                      Default printing speed 40mm/s
                      outline underspeed 43%
                      solid infill underspeed 70%
                      support structure underspeed 60%
                      X/Y axis movement speed 160mm/s
                      Z axis movement speed 20mm/s
                      first layer height 100%
                      first layer width 100%
                      first layer speed 40%
                      primary layer height 0.1500
                      top layers 6
                      bottom layers 6
                      outline/perimeter shells 4
outline direction - Outside In (geometrically more accurate than Inside Out)
                      Honeycomb Interior Infill percentage 30%

                      • Thanks for the suggestions Bruce. It is becoming pretty clear to me that 3D printing is a pretty complicated process. It is an opportunity to learn a new skill however and can be very useful going forward. Anyways I imported your design into Design Spark and trying to reduce the hole size. That is my first challenge. Will see how it goes.

                        • Hi Stan, Tell me what size you would like the bore reduced to and I can easily do this would only take few minutes.
What import format does design spark accept, STEP is usually a good format, posted above for David.

Wondering if setting up Discord might be good for more direct communication between interested parties or members only?

This is disapointing from wiki:- Add-on modules[edit]

Paid add-on modules are available and provide functionality for the free 3D CAD DesignSpark Mechanical software, such as full support of two popular 3D file formats (Export and import file type: STEP & IGES) and an associative drawing environment, adding many functions such as cosmetic Threading, GD&T, Annotations and more.[3][4]

                          • Thank you Bruce for your help. Getting late in here so my brain is not at its peak but anyways I imported your step file into Design Spark free version without any problems. The file is locked but found a workaround:
                            http://comeandmakeit.blogspot.com/20...signspark.html

Tried it and it worked, Selected the shaft hole and did the pull inward to 1mm radius,

                            • Stan the file being locked is strange, I imported it into Space Claim and there was no indication that it was locked, I could edit the model. Glad you found a work-around.
