  • Thanks for that link Ed to J.C. His reviews are excellent, although I don't have 4K projection the blu-ray titles I have watched he does talk about that are very good are, Hunter Killer, Lucy, 1917, The Shallows, and Blade Runner 2049 both in 2D and 3D. all good stuff.

I did a screen comparison using the Epson with a couple of screen shots of "Flight Of The Navigator". Notice the improvement of the image width of 1:85.1 over the 1:77.1 of the previous release.

The first still is from the 2012 edition.

    • Graham, you and John have the advantage of being able to directly compare 35mm to digital. In John's reviews he often mentions how he favors digital copies that manage to retain the "film look". His comment on how the UHD of Apocalypse Now looked very much like what he remembered seeing in theaters.

      • Last night I though I watch a bit of "Star Wars" note the scene here where "George Lucas" holding the script, is telling "Darth Vader" to get of his set...well its a bit different excellent picture and sound

        • Well its a cold wintry night tonight, I think the temp is going to drop down to zero so folks if you are into "winter holidays" with plenty of good local ski fields, this is the place to come to.

Anyway back to movies "The Dish" well this was another 35mm print we ran at the cinema which I thought was pretty good. I never had much time to watch films back then, but this was one I managed to see Also at the time I bought the soundtrack as it has a lot of good 1960s music in it as well.

Its a Australian film based on a true story.

            • Doug reminded me in another topic of when I watched the blu-ray of "A Bridge To Far" I did watch it on the Epson about two weeks ago. It really is an outstanding film. The film also does not hold back in blaming some of those who made some terrible decisions.

the film has an amazing line up of well known actors from the 70s in it and well worth watching.

You should move somewhere where it is warm, like Scotland.

Somehow I missed "The Dish". I see it got great reviews; I'll add that one to my "to watch" list.

                  • North Sea Hijack. A departure for Roger Moore from The Saint/ James Bond roles. Great print and sound output. The super 8 cutdown (2x400) of this was always entertaining but watching the full feature you pick up on the little storylines that have been edited out. Lots of extras 3 documentaries 50 minutes each from the actors and technicians who worked on the movie. It used to be a regular on the television but in this “new era” I can see it not featuring as often now which is a shame as it is harmless. Entertaining movie. £12.00 from Amazon. Apparently, Anthony Perkins was a real sweetie in real life not a Psycho. 🧟‍♂️Click image for larger version

                    • Not tonight but last night, once again, its really something to watch this 65mm film taken at the time. The quality is "stunning", its a 2:20.1 picture ratio which fills my screen up just perfect using the Epson VP.

                      Highly recommend this blu-ray .

                        • "The Book Thief" Outstanding movie, one thing about the Epson VP it can give you a pure white light for those snow shots, this is exactly what you want. There is a slight tendency with our digital camera, to go slightly on the blue side of the below stills, however the "pure white" that I can see on the screen for me is very impressive .

                          • Touch of Evil Film noir from Orson Welles. Fascinating movie and release. We have three version of this film . Pre Release rough cut , theatrical release and restored version based on Orson’s original intentions. Usually not a fan of director versions but watching the restored version it is significantly different from the theatrical release. It is also more edgy and darker which suits Welles personality. I would say it is better than threatical release but do miss Mancini score. Great movie to watch. Amazon £12.00. Remastered and sounds great. More extras than you could shake a stick at ! Highly Recommended.Click image for larger version
