  • Last night I thought I would return to the 60s with "Thunderball" 1965. It really is a stunning transfer, the color looks fantastic on the Epson. I bought the brilliant John Barry 1965 score LP, from a second hand store a year or so ago in really good condition.

As for blu-ray quality well all I can say is, "Thunderball" is right at the top of my list, highly recommend getting this one folks .

This old 1965 LP cover also looks great, as with John Barry score .

Took delivery of Christmas with the Kranks another high quality BluRay. So funny and a solid cast.

      • Saw 'Thunderball' with my Dad when it was first released. We both loved it.

Soon after, I went on a school trip to Whitby, North Yorkshire and immediately blew all of my spending money on a toy '007 spear gun' from 'Thunderball'.

Within minutes, I had thrown away the packaging and discharged one of the 'spears' (wooden arrow type stick with rubber sucker on the end) from the spear gun. Of all the bad luck, It landed behind some kind of shed/hut on the beach and was out of reach for me or my friends to retrieve.

Who knows, maybe it's still there. Those 007 spear guns are now very rare and go for a fortune on ebay.

Great film still though. Will have to get the blu ray put on my (long) list of films to buy.

                • Lair of the White Worm. Gothic Vampire movie with Sex Violence Nudity Gore and Comedy . Relatively unknown cast at the time Amanda Donohoe and Hugh Grant. Piece of madness from Ken Russell. Great Entertainment 🤪

Hugh Grant, Amanda Donohoe, and Catherine Oxenberg star in this mix of heartstopping horror and campy humour. James D’Ampton (Grant) returns to his country castle in England. Legend has it that James’s distant ancestor once slayed the local dragon — a monstrous white worm with a fondness for the sweet flesh of virgins. The young lord dismisses the legend as folklore, until archaeology student Angus Flint explores James’s property and unearths a massive reptilian skull and a pagan snake god’s ancient site of worship. When James’s virtuous girlfriend, Eve Trent (Oxenberg), suddenly disappears, James and Angus set out to investigate the foreboding cavern said to be the worm’s lair, here a centuries-old mystery begins to uncoil.

                  • "Silent Running" 1972

I once had the U8 400 footer, remember that one?. I bought it brand new at the time. Great to see the full feature on blu-ray, both picture and sound are very good. The special effects are looking good to, lots of extras on the disc, great stuff from the 70s

                        • Well you have to be in the right frame of mind to sit through 3hr 25min of non stop Directors cut of "Das Boot" tonight was it .

Outstanding blu-ray quality as with DTS 5:1 sound, projected using the Epson VP. Sound wise the sub woofer was really doing its thing tonight "Das Boot" is an outstanding submarine movie, certainly I think one of the best.

                          • Classic Hammer Horror movie The Devil Rides Out. Super sharp print and sound which has been digitally enhanced. The special effects have also been cleaned up and enhanced. Great documentaries as well.

                            • Well I have gone from submarines the other night to helicopters "Blue Thunder" was another 80s films I enjoyed watching at the cinema. Its certainly full on action starring Roy Scheider, Warren Oates and Malcolm McDowell as the bad guy.

Both image and sound 5:1 are very good.

                              • Scars of Dracula. Superb transfer vivid colour. One of the lesser Draculas with the budget squeezed after the American money withdrew from Hammer. This was the first two Hammer funded by EMI. Have to admit it is pretty bloody for Hammer released after the censorship change of X certificates in 1970.

It does have it claim to fame in 8mm world being the best selling ever title for Derann. I would suspect it was the 4x400 digests that pushed that figure. From memory the 400 digest was badly cut. Mind you the later full feature release was miles better in terms of print from the early releases. Good gory fun 🧛‍♂️
