  • Carrying on with my E Lancs Film Fair purchases "March of the Movies" (Collectors Club 400ft), South Pacific trailer (Flat, Derann) and "Shakespeare 400" Derann 'scope 200ft.

    • Brian. Your enthusiasm for film is truly wonderful to see and if I may say what a nice guy you are to spend time with.
      See you at Blackpool.

Got my March of the Movies in 1970something from CC they were so good to deal with and priced to my youthful pocket.

Watched Yellow Submarine and the CC trailer.

      • Watched that 3x400ft of "Black Sunday" again, seeing if I would like it more the second time. I guess it just isn't my cup of tea. It seems more "grainey" than most of the Marketing Films.

BLACK SUNDAY is playing on TCM this month. I have a recording set. I haven't watched the FULL movie in years. How is the color on your copy Osi?

          • The color, ( now on eBay for sale) is OK ,. About a 7 or 8 out of 10, depending on the reel. The first couple of minutes of reel 1 is the least, as it happens at night, but the rest is certainly watchable.

            • INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM.
Amazing on the big screen and still a must-see classic! Spielberg at his best!

                • Charlie Chaplins full feature MODERN TIMES.
A real masterpiece and still as brilliant as ever. „Smile“ is so touching when You enjoy the film on the big screen. It’s a german print with german titles. I don’t know another version, but this one is simply wonderful.

                  • This evening I sat back and enjoyed the following......

All In Good Fun - 1x 400' - Bob Monkhouse presenting extracts from silent comedies. Nice one to have in the collection.

That's Dancing - 5x 400' - A premiere for me being the first time I have screened it since its purchase last weekend at Lee's soiree, AND the first time I had seen it.....ever ! Absolutely beautiful colour in between the black and white sequences. Funny thing is, the print is adapted widescreen (no extra lens needed) but most of the first 3 reels are flat. The effect is that prior to projection one has framed it to fill the screen and end up with a smaller picture....most of the time. The "scope" sequences later on are really good, though. Overall a great addition to the collection, on par with That's Entertainment.

                    • Yesterday I watched this very early Walton 400ft release "Oh Mr Porter" I had not watched in a very long time, both picture and sound were very good, for train fans this one is fun to watch.

The Other Super 8 film was our old friend "Star Wars" 400ft, Its a pity that these prints have faded, yesterday was more of a nostalgia screening for one of the most popular digests in its day. This particular print I was given about 20 years ago, yesterday was the first time I had actually screened it. I did buy it, as just about everyone did brand new at the time of its release but in later years sold it, that particular release came in a carboard box not like the later ones. "Star Wars" was a game changer for Super 8 collecting back then. Its a good edit, as with the sound, just a pity about color.

                      • Graham,
                        great pictures.
As far as I know the beginning of the STAR WARS cutdown (the screen filling Star Destroyer) is in scope in the Ken Films cutdown; can You confirm that? Sadly the german marketing film cutdown is flat.

                          • As the ports at the back of the Star Destroyer are round (And it looks a lot better with the anamorphic lens in place) I'm pretty sure that is the squeezed shot. I suspect it was to ensure any earlier titles were not cropped.

                            • Yes, that intro shot was in scope, which always annoyed me, as the rest of that digest, part 1, is flat. We have the Marketing digests, parts 1 and 2, and both are AGFA! Interestingly, that first shot of the Star Destroyer, is flat and my scope in the Marketing digest and so, since we hauled it out to watch it tonight, it qualifies for this series of posts!

                              • Yes, Graham, the star destroyer is in scope.
You can see, that the moon is squeezed.
