  • Often referred to as the forgotten "Ealing Classic" Bringing the restored Maggie back to life was a film I always wanted to see get the full treatment. The blu-ray release certainly does that. The Maggie has always been one of my favorite films so it does not need much persuasion to again screen it tonight. The B/W does looks great, but its a pity "Ealing" did not capture the scenery of the West Coast of Scotland in stunning Technicolor.

    • Watched the outstanding 3D version tonight using the Epson VP. I have to say its one of the best 3D images I have ever seen. Filmed mostly in Canada the scenery and colors just look fantastic. I have watched this movie before, and one scene where he wants to stop a train by climbing up the lights with a red felt pen in hand changing the glass cover to show red amuses me.

The blu-ray is from "Madman" which did remind me of the days we used to deal with them for 35mm prints long ago

Anyway" T.S.Spivet" is a outstanding movie, if you don't have 3D don't be put off, its good stuff either way, just go to the menu and select which version you want to watch, also I should add the music is brilliant to .

      • I bought the 9 film complete boxset of the Planet of The Apes movies recently, so last night I decided to start from the beginning and work my way through them all! The only Ape movie I remember not liking was 'Beneath the Planet of The Apes' , so I'm interested to see if I still feel that way this time.

        • Double feature night starting at 6pm, usually one movie a night is about it for me, but tonight after picking up the blu-ray of John Carpenter's 1982 "The Thing" at a second hand store of $5 dollars today, I thought a double feature night was in store.

Starting at 6pm was "The Thing" excellent picture quality and DTS 5:1 sound track, in the past I had only ever watched it on DVD. The blu-ray was much better
Around 8pm it was time for "Outland" from 1981, again this blu-ray was excellent quality with a DTS 5:1 soundtrack . I first watched this film at the cinema when it was first released and have always liked it. What does stand out, is the music by Jerry Goldsmith, which ads so much to the atmosphere of the movie, all great stuff from the 1980s when we used to go a lot more to the cinema at night, than we do today.

Finished using the Epson VP at 10pm, so that's it for me tonight .

One quick screen shot taken tonight

                • Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines. A German release with the title on the box in German but the default soundtrack is English 5.0 the German mono. I have this on Super 8 from Derann but in 2.66:1 the Blu Ray is the original (full height) 70mm 2.20:1. The disc is AB& C regions.Click image for larger version Name:	mmitfm002.jpg Views:	0 Size:	248.6 KB ID:	35562

                  • Age of Adeline, a surprisingly old fashioned time travel styled romantic drama starring Harrison Ford among others. Literally no foul language even, which is a rarity these days, and a story line that made us think. A woman is in an accident and stops aging.

                    • Jumping back to the 1986 last night with a screening of the blu-ray "Flight Of Navigator". This title was one of the most popular hire at the video library here in NZ. Long before people had there little cell phones stuck to there heads as we see in todays worldback then it was this for most, how times have changed

A couple of quick screen shots from last night, plus what I think is one of the best use of the final on screen credits, plus the music, better not forget that .

Note.... Actress "Veronica Cartwright" in this film, from ALIEN also she was the little girl way back in "The Birds".

                      • Aliens. I really don't like the sped up tempo of the original theme used in places on this.

I found the directors cut of Aliens to be much better than the original cinema release. It was interesting to hear James Cameron speak of the film during the introduction on the blu-ray, and how this version "directors cut" was the one he wanted people to see, but was unable to back then due to cutting the film back to reduce the running time for its cinema release.

Thankfully those parts removed during editing back then, were kept and now we can watch the movie story wise I think, is much more complete, how James Cameron always wanted it to be.

Last night we did watch on the VP once again Jurassic World but this time the 2D version, as my better half unfortunately can't watch 3D movies.

Its certainly a full on fun movie to watch with the sub doing a lot of work

                            • The Network release of "Raise the Titanic". It made a change to see a full version as I have most of the story on a mixture of releases. Part one of the Derann 2x400ft, part 3 of their feature release and the rest on 16mm.

I was pleasantly surprised by the DTS 5.1 remix of the old mono soundtrack.

A beautiful 5.1 DTS - HD MASTER AUDIO lossless soundtrack has been included, with amazingly deep bass and expansive channel separation. I was in disbelief that an old mono soundtrack could be livened up to this extent. But they have done a remarkable job raising the sound to this level. Also included for the Purist is a 1.0 Dolby Mono track which sounds incredibly clear.
